Summary of Position:

The Pastor of Family Ministries is the advocate for the generations of the church and will oversee the structures and culture of the church to ensure that the family of God is working together to make disciples of the next generation.  The Pastor of Family Ministries is first an advocate for children, youth and early adults because they are least knowledgeable and experienced in the Christian life. Next, the Pastor of Family Ministries is an advocate for parents, because they are in the greatest position of influence to the young.  

Areas of responsibility

The Pastor of Family Ministries will oversee the discipleship systems from cradle to college as well as ministry to and with parents. The Pastor will work closely with adult discipleship leaders to ensure that parents are prepared to lead their children and that young people have spiritual mentors within the church family.

Children and Student Ministries

  • Oversee relational, engaging ministries to children and youth.
  • Ensure that the curriculum used at each level of spiritual development connects to the next.
  • Ensure that ministry leaders connect regularly with parents to establish a clear partnership in the discipleship of their children.

 

Equipping and Encouraging Parents

  • Guide ministry leaders in selecting or developing a curriculum that is cohesive from birth to adulthood and that is helps parents to complement the church learning with home learning.
  • Develop and implement a plan for on-going parent training and encouragement.
  • Oversee training and biblical studies that equip parents for their spiritual role and responsibilities.
  • Consult and mentor parents privately on specific issues within their family as needed.

 

Intergenerational Connections

  • Encourage intergenerational gatherings to build relationships and help all generations recognize how God is working in the whole family of God (particular focus on 5th Sundays)
  • Work with the Senior Pastor and other ministry teams to ensure that there are opportunities for all generations to worship, learn and serve together.

Expectations

  • Attend weekly Staff Meetings
  • Build relationships with parents
  • Lead Children’s and Student Volunteer Teams
  • Coordinate with Adult Discipleship Team and Senior Adult Team (Young at Heart)
  • Identify and inspire servant leaders and volunteers
  • Assess the ongoing effectiveness of ministry areas including programming, staff, and volunteers; lead adjustments and changes as needed
  • Responsible for the development and management of budgets and calendars for ministry areas
  • Communicate regularly with parents and students through multiple sources
  • Preach on occasion at request of Senior Pastor; occasional assistance in baptisms, weddings and funerals, as needed

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field minimum, advanced degree preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience preferred
  • Previous supervisory and or management experience preferred
  • Experience and comfort in public speaking/preaching
  • Skilled in planning, time management, organize and mentoring
  • Experience in recruiting, inspiring, and equipping volunteers as teachers, mentors, small group leaders

Summer internship in Christian Discipleship: Covenant Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC, seeks a summer intern who wishes to learn about and engage in the ministry of Christian discipleship in the context of a large, urban Presbyterian congregation.
 
The summer intern for Christian discipleship will enjoy a broad range of experiences in ministry, and should be committed to growing in a life of Christian faith and interested in exploring how to help children, youth, and adults grow in their journeys of faith, as well.

Part time Youth/Children Minister Job Description

St. Paul Baptist Church

                St. Paul Baptist Church seeks to hire a part time 20 hours a week Youth/Children Minister. The pastoral expectation is to minister to children and youth between the ages of 5-18 or Kindergarten to 12th grade and create an environment so children and youth will discover God and come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. This person will facilitate and promote programs and ministry in sync with the Pastoral vision for St. Paul. Biblical emphasis and theological basis for children and youth development are of utmost importance.

                St. Paul is a part of the United Missionary Baptist Association (Charlotte, NC), General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Lott Carey Foreign Mission Convention, National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., and American Baptist Churches. It is the pastoral expectation for this position to develop into a full-time capacity with a bifurcation of children ministry and youth ministry. This person will also be expected to minister to the families of these children and youth. Starting salary is between $13,000-$16,000 per year. Directly reporting to the Senior Pastor.

 

Qualifications:

                A person must have a relationship with Jesus Christ and a passion for youth and children. This person is expected to be self-motivated, possess administrative and leadership skills, and be able to develop volunteers. A Master of Divinity is strongly preferred but not required. Sunday attendance in worship at both services is required. Experience with youth/children of 3-5 years is expected. Successful referral, drug test, and criminal background checks.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage volunteers to assist in children/youth ministries
  • Organize effective youth and children programs, fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, and mission
  • Seek local, state, national and global exposure and learning opportunities for children and youth
  • Develop relationships with youth/children and their families through faith-building curriculums, activities, trips, and courageous conversations
  • Create ways for ministry to reach out to area students in the larger community
  • Provide coaching and care for children/youth and their families
  • Make referrals to the Senior Pastor or other responsible persons as needed
  • Encourage and facilitate student involvement/leadership in worship and ministry groups
  • Integrate youth and children into the larger ministry aspects for St. Paul in ways that promote intergenerational relationships, understandings, and collaborations
  • Encourage church membership and ministry of youth and children
  • Regularly attend worship and periodically participate in worship leadership-both in youth/children only worship events and in main sanctuary church worship
  • Facilitate the corporate spiritual life of youth and children
  • Be a life learner about ministry with students through “on-going” education, books, articles, conferences, and reflection
  • Develop and manage the budget for youth/children ministry
  • Encourage and facilitate children and youth involvement/leadership in worship and ministry groups
  • Attend Staff meetings when possible
  • Make reports to staff meetings weekly (either written or verbal)
  • Present ministry goals
  • Assess ministry programs for youth and children
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor
