Description

Throughout history, the Bible has played a central role in preaching. This course will examine many of the ways the Bible has been used in Christian preaching, beginning in the early church and up to today. Special attention will be given to the ecclesial contexts of the students in the seminar and the predominant ways that the Bible has been, and is, used in preaching. Students will examine their own preaching and the uses of the Bible in which they engage. In a summative paper for the course, each participant will construct an approach to the Bible for use in preaching, including a critical examination of the theological and hermeneutical commitments that each has with regard to the nature and function of the Bible in preaching. Assessment criteria will be formed in order to assess one's use of the Bible with a view to respecting the integrity of the Bible, preaching, and all participants in the preaching enterprise. This course can also be used to meet the Biblical Studies/Theology
