Description

This course will focus on the content of Practical Theologies and the pastoral practices that emerge from their methods, aims, sources, and critiques, with additional emphasis on how the church's practical theology is formed around issues of social justice and advocacy. Students will be challenged to understand what this contextually based theology means for pastoral leadership. This course will also highlight African American experience, social justice issues, a critique of Black preaching and ecclesiological discourse, religion, spirituality, and modes of care in both the public sphere and personal spirituality. The course will include the experiences and voices of those outside the historically black church congregation.
