Description

PTH 431 African American Pastoral Theology 2 Hours
This course will focus attention on the content of African American Pastoral and Practical Theologies as well as the pastoral practices that emerge from their methods, aims, sources, and critiques, with additional emphasis upon how the practical theology of the church is formed around issues of social justice and advocacy. Students will be challenged to understand what this contextually based theology means for pastoral leadership in African American contexts. This course will highlight African American experience, issues of social justice, a critique of Black preaching and ecclesiological discourse, religion, spirituality, and modes of care in both the public sphere and personal spirituality.
